The Red Dragon Under The Pandemic

Ever since the Coronavirus first hit the global stage, mankind ushered into an era of panic knowing that the pandemic was long due yet unprepared for. During the entirety of this infernal affair many truths came forth into the public domain, one such declaration was the lack of transparency from China who repeatedly tried to conceal the advent of this new disease either to potential deny spreading it, which it has done in the past, claiming that it was in fact American soldiers who entered Wuhan, had introduced the virus.

Apart from this bubbling horror which has been scattering itself across the world in the forms of death and lies since December when the first case was recorded, what truly holds itself as a solid point in the midst of this chaos is how the Red Dragon has been profiteering off of a pandemic, which is at the core of this article.

Under the Coronavirus Pandemic there have been four major elements to their supposed gains in a situation of tragedy.

Firstly, China has repeatedly used its position as the central player in the event to point out that it is the apparent global response leader shunning the views of the western world alongside that of the south eastern Asiatic countries as they try to test and survive within this plague via transparency and testing measures.

Unlike China who have supposedly cleared themselves of a rising body count, which they halted at approximately eighty thousand deaths whilst they still impose a lockdown in their “empty” hospital wards much to the questioning of the international community.

Secondly, China has made it a point to make the world dependent upon their pharmaceuticals alongside their mass produced personal protective equipment of poor quality which some nations have no other choice than to purchase.

Thirdly, their expansionist silk road trade route alongside the belt and road initiative has made them global collectors of debt from many African and Far Eastern nations, this debt based model of imperial control which involves them buying out the economies of their Mayweather friends such as Pakistan has now come into the limelight as during this mode of economic crisis they may in fact find themselves in economic control despite their growing debt under Coronavirus.

Lastly, they are seemingly preparing for a post virus strategy to gain control over the economic and political vacuum left by the losses faced by the traditional first world and in power countries at the face of the current situation.

Alongside these elements of potential gain during the adversity, they have also tried to make more physical expansionist claims with their sly corroborations with Nepal and Pakistan over the tensions at the Galwan Valley which is supplemented by their inane thirst for land which can easily be seen by the very fact that they cannot seem to accept the line which demarcates the Indian Subcontinent and The People’s Republic of China or the fact that more than sixty percent of their nation is made up of the territories of other nations such as Tibet as well as Mongolia amongst others.

China has also gained a solid footing on their affair with the South China Sea, which was largely in the spotlight before December of 2019. They are continuing to build their large maritime empire which if anything is a complete and utter manipulation of the situation, using the lack of maritime tensions to gain a footing which is morally abhorrent, yet it isn’t unusual of the Red Dragon to do so.

This has come to the notice of the international community however, as Australia wrote out a letter to the United Nations stating that there was no legal basis which granted the Chinese a claim to connect baselines across the archipelagos and the Four Sha of the waters.

Such arguments have been taking place between those of the ASEAN who refute China’s claim to over ninety percent of the waters.

In conclusion, China’s attempts at profiteering off of the pandemic may prove quite stale for after all is said and done what remains from a dragon’s plundering is meaningless ash itself, as the surroundings fade away into obscurity.

Plot Armour, Bad Writing, Abandoned Plotlines and Game of Thrones

2016. A simpler time, the year when George RR Martin announced the release of Winds of Winter, which never attained fruition and the advent of the Game of Thrones scripts prolonging their one-year-old movement of straying away from the material to adapt due to lack thereof.

This lead to the inclusion of one of the many literary evils, that of plot armour.

Plot Armor, a seemingly simple phrase which affects the entirety of a story when manifested, the ability of a character to somehow survive all lethality thrown toward them in sheer class, to miraculously not succumb to all the danger that is thrown toward them.

It plays a part in many literary works of fiction, but one work that it has most recently cast itself in is the epic fantasy saga of Game of Thrones.

Ever since the fifth season of the popular HBO series, there has been evident plot armour, but there was one season which took the biscuit.

The critically blackened final season which seemingly brought about many controversies for a good reason that too seemed to have besmirched the build-up provided by the previous seasons in a fashion so peculiar that many couldn’t stand the new supposedly interesting storylines and even petitioned for a remake of the season, which most of us would have wished for.

Amongst the many inconsistencies of the final season stand the fact that Jon Snow was not executed by the Unsullied after Daenerys Targaryen’s murder at his hands, the coming of Brandon Stark to the Iron Throne after he stated he could not be a leader or in his exact words “I can’t be lord of anything” after Sansa Stark reminded him of his lineage as Ned Stark’s only surviving true son.

The prophecy by Maggie the Frog which stated that Cersei would be killed by the Vallonquar went to literal rubble when she and Jaime were killed by falling bricks whilst trying to escape King’s Landing after Daenerys’ plunders it, and last but not least the Azor Ahai or Prince that was promised build-up by Melisandre who first believed that it was Stannis and then after his death travelled north due to the fact that she now believed that Jon Snow would end the Long Night when it came.

Spoiler Alert: David Benioff and D.B Weiss apparently didn’t want to go with the obvious, so they just threw that arc out of the bag and gave the moment to Arya Stark who eventually kills the Night King but had no connection to the Azor Ahai affair for which Melisandre legitimately resurrected Jon Snow, a post that Ser Pounce, Tommen Baratheon’s cat had a stronger claim to.

Amongst the other inconsistencies lie Daenerys’ forgetting about the Iron Fleet and getting one of her dragons killed when she was reminded of it mere minutes ago in a scene prior, also on this list is her apparent transition to madness when King’s Landing’s bells ring as to surrender. She disregards it and instead murders everybody.

That’s an excellent way to ruin a fan favourite, talking about fan favourites, Arya Stark’s training with the faceless men and Jaqen H’Ghar’s literal existence in the house of black and white has gone to ash except her making a pie for Walder Frey and then using his face to avenge those who died in the Red Wedding.

Now comes the true crime of plot armour, if it weren’t present in this season it might have been slightly more fathomable, which it wasn’t. As previously mentioned Jon Snow should be dead, instead he joins the Night’s Watch which is essentially a home for him, Arya Stark’s end should have been at the hands of the Night King alongside Bran Stark if they were to omit the Azor Ahai prophecy and lastly why exactly is a drunk pirate called Euron and his pregnant blonde mistress Cersei the final battle rather than the man who raises dead people and has an army of thousands of dead people even when Cersei who was promised two thousand elephants by the Golden Company which the show didn’t really have the CGI budget for, so they never turned up.

Hopefully, we can expect a lot more from the spin-off shows, prequels and then two remaining books which are in the works.

Fundraising Platforms

In these times I hold a strong belief like many others that the internet is in fact a catalyst for political, social, cultural, and environmental change.

While it is important to care for issues across the globe, it is also important to pay attention to your vicinity when trying to make that change otherwise it would be rather foolish to stay within chaos as you try to fix another gaping wound in an alien place.

Fundraising platforms are imperative to bringing about this change and here is a list of the best platforms out there!

The Need For Others Like Jacinda Ardern

By Prerana Srinivasan

‘The world doesn’t need a whole lot of massively thick-skinned politicians; they do need people who care’ – New Zealand prime minister Jacinda Ardern.

Jacinda Ardern, the third female prime minister of New Zealand, a small country off of the coast of the Australian continent with a population of four million and eighty thousand residents set an example to the world. Her agility, endurance and ability to stay calm even under the pressure of terrorist attacks, earthquakes and an unruly pandemic truly does speak more than the words used to lay praise upon her.

Elected in 2017, after Prime Minister Bill English, Jacinda has proven her worth after tackling such matters of severity with sheer competence unlike her counterparts and predecessors. Even as leader of the opposition in the Labour Party, she quickly rose through the ranks, and was popular amongst the people. She still holds this lasso on ever growing popularity as the next election approaches. This is another feat that many politicians of this day and age have thrown away carelessly.

Though New Zealand’s declaration of being free of the virus lasted for only two weeks before two travellers from the United Kingdom tested positive for the virus, their strategy of going hard and going early with the lockdown has set a precedent for what it is to properly control a virus.

An example would be that of  Jair Bolsonaro, the Brazilian head of state, who openly condoned the lockdown and wished for the public to dismiss the zoonotic disease as a slight flu, even threatening to fire the Brazilian health minister over the decision of enforcing a lockdown.

That is where the question emerges, why exactly was New Zealand successful with its narrowing of the virus and ensuring that its spread wasn’t as vicious as it was in other nations?

One attributing factor would, in fact, be the country’s relatively small population and amongst the others stands the primary factor of the government’s actions.

As per the previously mentioned phrase of “going hard and going early”, New Zealand entered a level 3 lockdown on the 23rd of March, as non-essential businesses were closed, domestic air travel was banned though discretionary, and all events and gatherings were cancelled.

It then progressed into a level 4 lockdown, which was a stricter way of tackling the virus, which was also referred to as the “eliminate” policy after forty-eight hours. Under this policy, people were told to only maintain contact with those people whom they lived with.

Even earlier, on the 19th of March, New Zealand closed its borders, banning all inbound travel to the country except returning New Zealanders and some essential health workers.

It is this approach of tackling the illness as early as possible, that has had outstanding results which builds to such a great rapport of the New Zealand Prime Minister.

That is why there is a need for others like Jacinda Ardern .

However, notable examples of others who fall under this minority would be Nicola Sturgeon, Angela Merkel, Mette Frederiksen, Sanna Marin, Erna Solberg, and Tsai Ing-Wen.

For instance, in Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon the First Minister, published a plan for the times which lie ahead alongside the problems, which has been extremely popular in the nation, the document having been downloaded by approximately a quarter of a million people.

The document was based on the four critical aspects of “kindness, compassion, openness and transparency”, she stated that she wanted to “treat people like grown-ups” and be “frank with you every step of the way”.

That is where these women have warped the standard approach of a blurred response from the government into transparency which has gained the trust of those in their country unlike nations such as China, which actively mislead their population to strengthen their hypnosis atop of them.

If one is looking for examples of leaders being productive during the pandemic, they needn’t look further. From Europe to New Zealand, female leaders are teaching a class in what it is to manage a crisis such as this one.

Countries such as Scotland, Finland, Denmark, Norway, and Taiwan are also worthy inclusions on the list of countries with effective national responses.

Though people may dismiss a few of these nations as small or of a low population, the inclusion of nations such as Germany and the nations of Scandinavia on this list speak for miles against the sheer banality of the claims.

Swaying The Populus

By Prerana Srinivasan

“If you tell a big enough lie and tell it frequently enough, it will be believed.” – Adolf Hitler

As such is the premise for influencing citizens during times of dysfunction. Such lies have been seen throughout history as they were put forth to divide society into miniscule bits. Even though the Modern Era has brought upon advancements it is not necessary that they could save a nation whilst under a blanket of authoritarian rule, with agendas for censorship and suppression, even the greatest of individuals may fall prey, with the others being swept away in a tornado of falsehoods.

Dictators are often regarded as individuals who have come to power in a nation-state in a way that is not democratic in nature, i.e by seizing power, they rule with an iron fist and are autocratic in nature.

However, the most notable part of their rule is that of how they maintain a stronghold despite the opposition of the international community and their very own citizens rather than the way they rose to power.

Most of the times when a dictator rises to power it is due to a vacuum of political nature in the region or the breakdown of constitutional machinery, in such times they often are viewed as the messiah that will bring an end to misfortune, however, history says the exact opposite whether it’s the effects of long term rule or short term rule.

Two very famous examples of this would be Napoleon’s rise to power, which came after the disastrous functioning of the directory in post-revolution France, and Adolf Hitler’s rise to power in post World War One Germany.

Napoleon rose to power quickly, as a result of the fact that he was a victorious general, who brought several victories, leading to his high status. The Brumaire coup was the immediate event that marked the rise of Napoleon to power. Napoleon conspired with different directors who helped him organize a coup, which overthrew the Directory government. This created a political vacuum through which Napoleon rose to power.

Dictators use an array of techniques to “sway the Populus” so that their agendas can be pushed forward whether it is beneficial to the nation or not. However, this “swaying” often comes with copious amounts of suppression as well as propaganda.

They generally play on the perceived weaknesses of the presidency to draw in support and criticize governments for actions like disbursal an excessive amount of cash, inflicting economic troubles, increasing taxes and different national policies that impact voters. Dictators then define plans for enhancements, that are enforced once they gain power.

The Nazis effectively used the information to win the support of legions of Germans, later in an exceedingly despotic way, to facilitate ill-usage, war, and ultimately put to death. The stereotypes and pictures found in Nazi information weren’t new, however, as it was already acquainted with their audience.

Propaganda is that the art of persuading people to have a specific view about certain information which is usually biased. It’s employed by political leaders or organizations to deliberately mislead a population into believing a set of facts or beliefs to be true. Propaganda is employed by most countries in times of war to encourage hatred towards the enemy and to push nationalism into the population.

Hitler believed powerfully in the power of propaganda that he created a post in his new government for a Minister of Propaganda and National Enlightenment. Joseph Goebbels was the person appointed to the post.

Propaganda was one of the various ways in which the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics tried to regulate its voters. The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics censorship body, Glavlit, was utilized not solely to eliminate any undesirable written materials, however additionally to make sure that the right philosophical spin was placed on each revealed item.

Dictators use quite a bit of psychological sway to draw in the eye of voters. they provide messages of hope and strength throughout difficulty and emerge assured and hopeful. Some government systems, primarily those with unequal branches of power, make it easier for dictators to emerge.

In distinction, governments like the United States, features a system of checks and balances, which never lets one branch dominate the other.

From Lenin to Goebbels, every regime used propaganda as a means of staying in power, defiling all mediums from paper to the silver screen. Such influence pays a major role in portraying the actions of a nation to the world.

Furthermore, the demise of such regimes is due to the elimination of the premise upon which the Populus was influenced.

How the Third Reich was doomed from the startPart One

Hitler was undoubtedly a genius but he lacked self-control. He recognized no limits. Otherwise, the thousand-year Reich would have lasted more than twelve years”. This was said by Wilhelm Frick, a prominent Nazi leader during the Nuremberg trials, where he was sentenced to death for war crimes, executed by hanging, and cremated in Ostfriedhof. Could his statement be true? Was Hitler’s vision of a thousand-year Reich possible after the commencement of the second world war? Here I will explore the multiple possible what-if’s of the war, and why in all of those situations, the third Reich was still doomed to a sudden end in a bunker in Berlin due to a trigger pulled with the shaking hands of a broken man. Many claims that given just a few differently made decisions the Reich could have placed itself in…

Reverend Saint Thunberg

Greta Thunberg, a media sensation, the youth change-maker leading the protest against climate change, is a Swedish born activist who has received international recognition for her school strike for climate change movement.
However, the purpose of this article is not to enlighten or bestow her achievements upon you, for then the purpose of this document would be rendered void. The matter of deliberation is that of Thunberg’s credibility and if she has actually made an impact on society apart from her wide presence on social media platforms.
Thunberg’s motivation for her movement is actually one that most of us could fall behind and support, however, when one starts to dig deep into the intricacies of her solution for climate change you cannot help but admit, that it’s flawed.
Her solution is simply not viable for third world nations and when the said solution is closely examined one could even claim that it can be rendered into first world propaganda to stop third world nations from developing.
The president of the Russian Federation, Mr. Vladimir Putin, dismissed Greta Thunberg’s recent speech at the United Nations, where she denounced world leaders for failing to combat climate change.
“I may disappoint you, but I don’t share the common excitement about the speech by Greta Thunberg,” Putin said at a forum in Moscow
“No one has explained to Greta that the modern world is complex and different,” Putin continued. “People in Africa or in many Asian countries want to live at the same wealth level as in Sweden.”
Putin later said children who are passionate about environmental issues, like Thunberg, should be supported.
When we ponder upon such remarks, we can’t help but agree that backing the plan of a sixteen-year-old climate change activist who is not even equipped with the knowledge required to form a viable model for solving the solution at hand, is ridiculous.
Let us discuss another incident that can add to the many reasons why Ms. Thunberg’s actions are quite questionable.
Russia has a way to reuse nuclear fuel; electricity over there is plentiful and cheap now and will continue to be so thanks to the “Dual-Component System’s” perfected use of uranium. The upcoming “energy crisis” may have already been averted as cheap and seemingly endless power can be sought out over there, and if recycling can guarantee them the ability to reuse materials cheaply and effectively (which is already happening even in Russia, with German cooperation) then humanity has a bright comfortable future ahead.
You would assume that climate change activists like Greta Thunberg would be absolutely thrilled by this news and yet there is a deafening silence because they want to impose their unviable solutions on the Earth, whether or whether not, it leads to the decimation of the planet, just to prove a point. Like all humans, she also has an agenda, one that is ruled over by her sheer foolishness, incompetence, and disregard for attention to detail.
In the month of August, she set sail for the United Nations. Greta Thunberg’s yacht, the Malizia II, delivered her to the UN climate conference in New York, two weeks after she first set sail from Europe. The transatlantic trip was a masterstroke in PR, with every major media outlet broadcasting updates on the journey and detailing the hardships Thunberg has endured – no toilet, no shower, and seasickness.
The accusations of hypocrisy rolled in thick and fast for good reason too, criticizing everything from the plastic water bottles used by the crew to the long-haul flights taken by the sailors responsible for returning the yacht to Europe, which is in fact justified.
When asked about her agenda at a press conference, it was “shocking” that she was unable to provide the press with an adequate answer due to the fact that she had no printed documents in her vicinity, evidently, isn’t it a gamble to support one who isn’t aware of what they’re supporting themselves?
This is with regard to the fact that Ms. Thunberg, has been an internationally recognized climate change activist for the past two years and couldn’t defend herself without a sheet of parchment.
To conclude, it is imperative that one sees through the flaws of her policies before supporting her for her radical stance, the intricacies truly bring forth her lack of comprehension of the situation at hand.

The Ballad of The Equilibrium

Your horror is worth its weight in gold,

In the abyss,

Down the ruins of old,

A bloodied motherland,

a mere call to the skies,

Lacerated bodies,

and putrid lies,

Upon Lucifer’s decree,

you’ll hypnotise,

Your transcendental trepidation,

Your dreaded glee,

The despot will remain,

Ne’er flee,

For the time has come for mangled innards,

To grace the terra,

As the iris would greet broken sclera.

For tell me, sir,

Have I now become your enemy by telling you the truth?

Does shell shock terror fill your eyes as you picture the void?

Do you dream of decay and decimation, as quandary proliferates?

All beings shall soon be rendered void,

For the madness shall spread,

 and engulf as all,

For now our caterwauls of misery are,

nothing but ruth bawls.

Tehran

The Geopolitical Situation in Iran

To begin with, when one references the situation in Iran, it is a mandate that we first discuss the role of arguably one of the most influential nations on the planet which is the United States of America, and the role of European nations following that, the status of the Iranian Nuclear Program.

The United States of America has had relations with Iran from the last quarter of the elapsed century. However the United States’ true involvement in the region is said to be from the time of World War Two, that is, from the nineteen-forties. At the time they were close in relation, with Iran even being host to Roosevelt,Stalin and Churchill in 1943 at the Tehran Conference.

However the relationship severed after the CIA involvement in the coup of 1953, which resulted in the, then prime minister Mohammed Mossadegh, following that,by the Islamic Revolution of 1979, which led to a contravention in relations that is unfortunately yet to be repaired.

Now with regard to the current day situation, with the 11th Iranian parliamentary elections in February, domestic politics are set to discuss foreign policy related issues, due to the fact that Hassan Rouhani, the Supreme Leader of Iran and the Iranian Reform movement are facing harsh censure over the government by conservatives.

It could take quite a while for the US and Iran to cross their paths in a positive sense.

Subsequently, efforts by several world leaders to get the presidents of Iran and the United States together on the sidelines of the recent UN General Assembly session in New York, failed, and no such talks were able to take place.

At the same time, a large quantity of pro-Reform supporters are in favour of not taking part in said elections altogether; on the contrary, conservatives view voting as a religious duty that they must partake in. Indeed, strong conservative turnout is expected in order to pave the way for changing the political texture of Iran’s parliament, which would sideline even the idea of dialogue with the West yet further.

Trump’s decision to continue to pursue a “maximum pressure” policy with regard to the situation in Iran just proves to show his lack of regard to the US-Iran relations in the past, and his decision to opt out of the JCPOA, only deepened the lack of trust between the weary Tehran and the United States.

On 8 May 2018 Trump announced United States withdrawal from JCPOA. Following the U.S.’s withdrawal, the EU enacted an updated blocking statute on 7 August 2018 to nullify US sanctions on countries trading with Iran.

In November 2018 U.S. sanctions came back into effect intended to force Iran to dramatically alter its policies with regard for its support for militant groups in the region and its development of ballistic missiles.

In May 2019 the IAEA certified that Iran was abiding by the main terms of the deal, though questions were raised about how many advanced centrifuges Iran was allowed to have,as the value remained quite loosely defined in the deal.

On 1 July 2019 Iran announced that it had breached the limit set on its stockpile of low-enriched uranium, which the IAEA had confirmed. Shortly afterward Iran announced an increase in uranium enrichment beyond the agreed limit of the deal.

Foreign minister Javad Zarif tweeted that the measures Iran had taken to scale back its commitment to the nuclear deal were reversible if the European signatories to the pact fulfilled their obligations.

Given Iran’s current political atmosphere, even the most optimistic Reformists have accepted that their share in Iran’s next parliament will significantly decrease. The conservatives will not give up a single opportunity to attack Rouhani’s policies of negotiating with the West. Thus, it seems that the window of opportunity for talks between Iran and the White House has closed, until the next US presidential election that is.

The Queer Case of Kashmir

Kashmir is undoubtedly one of the most majestic places in the Indian subcontinent, from the Dal Lake to the “meadow of flowers”, one could say that Kashmir has it all. However, Kashmir has been a breeding ground for turmoil since the departure of the British from the South East Asian region (1947).

According to the terms agreed to by India and Pakistan for the partition of India, the rulers of princely states were given the right to choose for either Pakistan or India or with certain reservations to remain independent. Hari Singh, the king of Kashmir, believed that by delaying his decision he could maintain the independence of Kashmir, however due to a revolution among his Muslim subjects along the western borders of the state and the intervention of Pashtun tribesmen, in October of 1947 he acceded to the Indian Union.

This was the signal for intervention both by Pakistan, which considered the state to be a natural extension of Pakistan, and by India, which intended to the act of accession. Localized warfare continued during 1948 and ended, through the intercession of the United Nations, in a cease-fire that took effect in January 1949. India and Pakistan defined a cease-fire line (LOC) during July of the same year.

Kashmir, being a rather peculiar state in the Republic of India, was granted special provisions which were laid down in articles 370 and 35(a) of the Indian Constitution. Article 370 of the Indian constitution is an article that grants special autonomous status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Article 35, sub clause (a) issued by the President of India on 14 May 1954, under Article 370 states that “The state of Jammu and Kashmir defined these privileges to include the ability to purchase land and immovable property, ability to vote and contest elections, seeking government employment and availing other state benefits such as higher education and health care”. Non-permanent residents of the state, even if Indian citizens were not entitled to these ‘privileges’.

The turmoil in Kashmir intensified with the recent, controversial abrogation of said articles. This led to a communications blockade and human rights violations which many claim are nothing but alleged. The situation in Kashmir has manifested itself into a cloud of chaos which erupts nothing but damage upon intervention.
On 22th September the Defense Minister of India,Rajnath Singh dared Pakistan to send terrorists to Kashmir now that the situation there had changed. Singh said that terrorism left Kashmir bleeding and termed Article 370 as a ‘lacerating wound’. “The biggest cause which gave birth to terrorism in Kashmir are Article 370 and Article 35A. This terrorism bloodied Kashmir. Let’s see how much courage Pakistan has. How many terrorists will it produce?” Singh said.

Imran Khan, the Prime Minister of Pakistan has warned the globe of a potential nuclear war with regard to the situation in Kashmir and has requested for UN interference.
Some people in Pakistan’s portion of Kashmir said thousands of people were preparing to storm the line of control (LOC), a ceasefire line agreed with India that is one of the most militarized borders in the world.

The President of the United States of America, Mr. Donald.J.Trump has offered his support as a mediator in the India- Pakistan situation over the region of Kashmir. The president reiterated to Khan as they began their meeting with reporters present, that he would be willing to mediate between India and Pakistan over Kashmir. Kashmir has long been a flashpoint between nuclear-armed India and Pakistan. Both countries rule parts of Kashmir while claiming it in full. Two of the three wars they have fought have been over it.
